The scouts uniform is also used in many schools in Indonesia at least once a week. The uniform consists of light-brown short-sleeve or long-sleeve shirts, with dark-brown shorts or trousers, and below-knee skirts or longer for females.
Nowadays, with the increase of the number of private schools in Indonesia, most private schools in the country have their own signature school uniform. Most still consist of shirts with shorts or trousers for males, and skirts for females, only with differences on the color. But, there are also many schools which have different type of uniforms such as vast, suit-like jackets, sailor style uniforms, pinafores, culottes, t-shirts, tartan skirts, military-style uniforms, and so on.
Every school also has their own standard grooming. The males are never allowed to have long hair, and are not allowed to color their hair either. Usage of accessories are prohibited for males, while the females are sometimes allowed to use simple accessories.
Some schools also pay attention on the kinds of shoes that can be worn. Black or white sneakers are the most common shoes to wear in school. Higher level educated students ,such as in SMA or SMK, are required to wear black-leather shoes.
